The Finishing Touch: Meet the Finishing Department!

If you’re an indie dyer, chances are you’ve twisted up dozens, hundreds, or maybe even thousands of skeins of freshly dyed yarn. So we thought you’d enjoy seeing how the workers in the mill where we make our yarns twist up these hanks of bare yarn into beautiful finished skeins ready for your dye vats! In the video, you’ll get to meet some of the folks who help us in this department, the finishing department.

undyed yarn making process

This department is responsible for the final step in the undyed yarn making process, before the yarn is packed into cartons and shipped on to talented dyers in the US and Canada, via our Ohio based warehouse. By touching every skein while twisting it, the finishing department gets a final opportunity for up close and personal quality control. Finally, the skeins are tagged, bagged, and packed into boxes.

The yarn is then transported to our warehouse in Ohio, where the fulfillment team repacks and ships the yarn onto indie dyers in Canada and the US. We loved hearing about the pride the finishing department workers take in their work, and we hope you enjoy it too!

We love seeing the amazing things you dye and make with Knomad yarns! Make sure to share your projects using #knomadyarn
